The Addison Field of Dreams Project Committee is comprised of a group of volunteer parents from the Slinger Community. We want to make sure the pictures you just saw of empty fields at Addison Elementary, have been replaced with pictures that are filled with children laughing, playing baseball and having a great time! Our desire is to ensure we continue to make Slinger a better community for our children.
The Addison – Field of Dreams Project is a fundraising effort that began in November, 2008. The financial goal of this project is to raise $50,000 that will allow us to build two baseball diamonds in the south fields at Addison Elementary. We plan to accomplish this through grants, personal and corporate donations, as well as fundraising.
Addison Elementary is part of the Slinger School District. The children at Addison Elementary are the only students in the Slinger School District that do not have access to a baseball diamond. Not only will this project benefit the children at Addison Elementary, but it will benefit all of the children who participate in baseball programs in Slinger area.
If your children have played Slinger Rec Baseball, then you are fully aware of the acute shortage of baseball diamonds for this program. In 2007, there were over 750 children on the Slinger Rec baseball teams, plus 8 tournament teams, that were scheduled on only 4 baseball diamonds. One of these fields does not have lights which limits its’ use. These diamonds are also used by Adult Softball Leagues, an Adult Kickball League and the Girls HS Fastpitch Teams.
The intended use of these fields, outside of school hours, will be for practice diamonds. The Slinger Park & Recreation Department will be in charge of scheduling these fields. This will greatly improve the quality and baseball field availability for all Slinger children.
We look forward to the impact this project will have on the students at Addison Elementary, as well as all of the children in the entire Slinger Community.
